How to Give Yourself a Subcutaneous Injection

Many VitaFix injections — Booster, Defender, Mender, and Maximizer — are given subcutaneously, into the fatty tissue just under the skin. Most patients find it easy to do at home after a quick walkthrough. Watch the video below, then review the step-by-step guide.

Where to Inject

We typically recommend one of two sites — rotate between them with each injection to avoid irritation:

🔵 Abdomen At least 2 inches away from the belly button, anywhere around the midsection where you can pinch a fold of skin.
🔵 Upper Buttocks / Hip The upper, outer area of the buttocks or hip — a good alternative if the abdomen feels sensitive.

Step-by-Step Guide

1
Wash your hands and gather suppliesWash hands thoroughly. Lay out your syringe, alcohol swab, gauze, and sharps container on a clean surface.
2
Choose and clean your injection sitePick the abdomen or upper buttocks/hip area, rotating sites each time. Clean the area with an alcohol swab and let it air dry.
3
Pinch the skin and insert the needleGently pinch about 1–2 inches of skin between your thumb and finger. Insert the needle at a 45–90° angle (your provider will confirm which based on your needle length), in one quick, smooth motion.
4
Inject slowly and steadilyRelease the pinched skin and push the plunger down slowly and evenly until the syringe is empty.
5
Withdraw and apply pressurePull the needle straight out and press gauze gently over the site for a few seconds. Don't rub the area. Dispose of the needle and syringe immediately in a sharps container — never in regular trash.
